Service Request

A service request in VueOps is a ticket submitted to report an issue, request maintenance, or ask for support. Service requests provide a streamlined way for facility occupants and team members to communicate needs to the maintenance team without requiring detailed technical knowledge.

What is a Service Request?

A service request is a simplified ticket type designed for reporting issues and requesting work. Unlike work orders, which are detailed task assignments for maintenance teams, service requests are typically submitted by facility users who notice a problem and need it addressed.

Common examples of service requests:

  • A room is too hot or too cold (HVAC issue).

  • A light fixture is broken or flickering.

  • An equipment alarm is going off.

  • A door lock is malfunctioning.

  • A water leak is noticed in a corridor.

Service Request vs. Work Order

Understanding when to use each:

  • Service Request (SR) — Use when reporting an issue or requesting work. Simpler form with fewer fields. Typically submitted by facility occupants or requesters.

  • Work Order (WO) — Use when defining a specific maintenance task with detailed instructions, scheduling, parts, and cost tracking. Typically created by maintenance administrators or generated by programs.

ℹ️ NOTE: A service request can be converted into a work order if the maintenance team determines it requires a more structured approach with scheduling, parts, and procedures.
