Single Sign On FAQ

Single Sign On (SSO) Frequently Asked Questions

What is Single Sign On?

Single Sign On (SSO) is a feature set for customers that need to control employee authentication in the product. SSO:

  • Prevents employees and contractors from “evergreen” access to SiteLine
  • Remove access for ex-employees and contractors
  • Is a component of good security Hygiene

How does SSO work?

Essentially, SSO is an alternative to logging in with a user ID and password. VueOps sets up a “trusted” relationship with the customer’s identity provider, which allows the user to access SiteLine with their company credentials (i.e. Network Login

Can I enable SSO for myself?

No. SSO is enabled for your company’s SiteLine account and requires configuration of your company’s and the SiteLine identity provider service so that the two systems can communicate. Typically, it is requested by security sensitive customers.    Please contact your VueOps account representative if your company is interested SSO.

Are there any pre-requisites for enabling SSO in my account?

Yes. There is a technical process to configure and test SSO for your company’s and the VueOps IdP, and there is an incremental subscription cost.   Typically, the technical process is handled by your company’s IT group and VueOps DevOps. Please contact your VueOps account representative if your company is interested SSO.

Who do I contact when I’m having a problem logging into SiteLine?

If the problem occurs when logging in with your company’s IdP service, contact your IT service department.

Otherwise, contact support@vueops.com

Why can’t I update my profile information in SiteLine?

For SSO enabled accounts, SiteLine requests user authentication and profile information from your from your company's IdP. Please update your profile information in your company’s IdP. It will update in SiteLine the next time you login.

Can I invite an outside vendor to my SiteLine account after my account is SSO enabled?

Yes.

A third party can access SiteLine if they are invited to the account, but their access is not under your company's  IdP control. Your company must provision corporate email account if you want the 3rd party user to be  under SSO

After you add a 3rd party user in SiteLine, they will receive an invitation email that enables them to login and setup their SiteLine password, see the knowledge base article entitled Adding Users in SiteLine
